Stroke is the fifth leading cause of death for
Americans, but the risk of having a stroke varies with race and ethnicity. Risk
of having a first stroke is nearly twice as high for blacks as for whites,2 and
blacks have the highest rate of death due to stroke. Though stroke death rates
have declined for decades among all race/ethnicities, Hispanics have seen an
increase in death rates since 2013.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a major cause of death
in the world as maximum people die annually from CVDs than
from any other cause.
As per the estimation around 17.5 million people died from CVDs in 2012,
representing 31% of all global deaths. Of these deaths, about 7.4 million were
due to coronary heart disease and 6.7 million were due to stroke. Most
cardiovascular diseases can be prevented but prevention begins with knowing
your risk. Almost 80% of premature heart disease and stroke can be
prevented by addressing behavioral risk factors such as unhealthy diet and
obesity, tobacco use, physical inactivity and harmful use of alcohol using population-wide
strategies. That means that habits like eating healthy, being active and living
smoke free, have a big impact on your health.
